Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera<\/em>) is a perennial half-shrub and it belongs to Solanaceae family. It has yellow-green flowers and red ripe fruit. The plant is widespread from southern Europe to the India and in Africa. Ashwagandha, often known as Indian ginseng, is an important component of traditional Indian medicine in Ayurveda, as it has been valued since ancient times for its hypnotic, sedative and antiseptic properties. Mostly dried roots and leaves are used.
